Description
The American University of Bahrain is located on a prime plot of 71,896 sq.m, a built-up area 22,865 sq.m, 3,500 students at maturity, and 878 parking spaces; the University’s design is a cutting edge in terms of site planning and building configuration: maximizing land utilization, integrating landscape areas and buildings, and employing sensitive environmental design. The result is an Academic Village that provides an exciting learning environment transcending in its design approach the conventional establishments by responding to the advancements in education philosophies.
The buildings are organized in clusters along a central spine carefully considering connectivity, flexibility, and use patterns; as well as directing building to the south and north to maximize natural lighting and to reduce heat gain. The design of individual buildings / colleges takes into account all functional and technical aspects; as well as the provision of appropriate support facilities of lobbies, services and communal spaces. Comprehensive elevation variations within an overall unity result in interesting campus pleasant from the different angles of view usually referred to as 360-degree architecture.
